Whether it be blogging or a job you’re currently at, a fair amount of people wonder what they need to do to become successful in their chosen field. Maybe you want to make a lot of money or maybe you just want to excel at what you do, whatever the case may be, there’s a certain set of traits that have been shown to increase your chances of success. These are the particular ones I noticed through reading more on the topic.
1. Drive
People with drive are innately born with an urge to succeed or to attain certain goals. These types of people will not let anything stop them from reaching their goals. Also known as “go-getters”.
2. Self – Reliance
What I mean by this is someone who doesn’t wait for someone else to give them something. They don’t expect handouts. They realize that the only way they can succeed is to take their life by the reigns.
3. Determination
When a successful person is determined to do something, they will continue trying to achieve whatever goals they have no matter what setbacks they may have along the way. Unsuccessful people usually give up when an obstacle is put in their way. Successful people refuse to give up.
4. Resilience
People who have this trait don’t give up when the going gets tough. They push through it and see the bigger picture. Failure happens to them just like everyone else but what differentiates them is the way they approach failure. They see it as a learning opportunity instead of a setback.
5. Patience
This is a big one. I myself am guilty of being impatient but I’m working on it so I can be successful with everything I do. Patience is such a key factor in success because goals take a lot of time to achieve and you rarely see someone become successful overnight. Patience pretty much goes hand in hand with drive and determination.
6. Optimism
Again, another one I’m trying to work on. Hey, I’m only human, lol. Nine times out of ten, the optimistic person will win out over the pessimistic one. When you lose optimism, you lose your willpower, drive, and determination. That’s two out of this list that you’ve lost! So, obviously, optimism is very important to a successful outcome.
7. Passion
If you don’t have a passion for what you’re doing then you’re doomed to fail. Passion is what fuels us to want to succeed and a cornerstone for success. If you goal is to be successful at something but you’re not passionate about it, you’ll lose interest and in turn lose your path to success.
8. Confidence
You have to believe in yourself and know that you’re good at whatever you’re doing to successfully work at it. It’s okay and common to have doubts about your skills, the key is to not let that feeling consume you. Otherwise, it will affect the quality of your work. Like they say, “fake it until you make it.”
9. Commitment
If you want to be successful, you have to be dedicated to seeing that success through. That means putting in extra hours, giving up a few things, and constantly improving yourself. Like I’ve said in the past, if you only put in 10% effort, you get a 10% result.
10. Philomath Personality
Philomath is just a fancy word for someone who likes learning. I can’t stress enough how important it is to constantly learn new things. How else will you get better at something? All successful people have an eagerness and willingness to learn new things.
Everything on this list are hugely important traits that successful people have. It can be really hard if you’re not naturally born with these character traits, but if you paid attention to this list; 3. Determination; if you don’t give up and work on your passion these things are possible!
I hope you liked this post and thanks for reading! You can check out my last post here.
What would you add to this list? How many of these traits do you have?
I’m definitely a philomath personality and someone who values self-reliance (almost to a fault). Great list! 🙂

Love this! I would also add that successful people I know spend a lot of time giving and building their online or business community.

This was really interesting! I lack so many of these things, but at least I can say I’m very passionate about whatever it is I’m doing. I think the one thing that really holds me back from is that I struggle to focus.
